What a sleeper is

A player putting up big numbers who has little or no recruiting attention yet — the kind of kid a 7on7 program can actually land, before the services find him.

How the score works

Every player gets a score from 0 to 100: production minus attention.

• Production is where he ranks on your state's leaderboard for the stat you picked. #1 of 200 scores about 100; the bottom of the list scores near 0.
• Attention is what Rivals already says about him — each star above two costs 12 points, each offer costs 3 (up to 15 offers), and being nationally ranked costs another 15.

So the state's leading receiver with no rating and no offers scores 100. A four-star with 25 offers scores 0 and never appears — he's not a sleeper, he's a recruiting target everyone already knows.

Reading the numbers

• 90–100 — top of the leaderboard, essentially unknown. Start here.
• 70–89 — strong production, minimal attention.
• Under 70 — producing, but colleges are already circling.

Where the data comes from

Production comes from MaxPreps state stat leaders for the season and class you choose. Attention comes from every Rivals-rated player in that same state and class, matched by name and school.

What it can't see

• Only kids with recorded stats. A dominant blocker, a shutdown corner nobody throws at, or a kid whose school doesn't report to MaxPreps won't show up at all.
• Stats reward volume. A receiver on a pass-happy team will out-produce a better athlete on a run-first team. This is a list of who to watch, not a verdict on who's better.
• "Unrated" means unrated by Rivals in that state and class — not that no college knows him.
• Transfers are handled carefully. If a kid's stats and his Rivals profile list different schools, Blitz checks his class, height and weight before deciding whether it's one kid who moved or two kids with the same name. When it can't tell, it hides him rather than risk calling a well-known recruit a hidden gem.

Bottom line: this list tells you whose film to pull up tonight.
